Really paranoid about music downloading! Can some one pleas guide me?

Ok, so i had limewire on my last laptop and it trashed it. I have heard good things from frostwire and ares, but it sounds like they are pretty much the same as limewire. I would like to know a good, safe program, or way to download music without there being a whole big bunch of viruses in the midst. Please help. I really am stuck and frustrated with this one!
